HOW YOU CAN HELP:

In indigenous communities, families and schools receiving water filters volunteer their labour in filter construction and installation, but they have no funds for filter costs. Direct program expenses are sustained entirely by donations.
A donation of $90 provides permanent water treatment for an Andean family. This amount supports the costs of filter construction and installation, family training in filter operation, hygiene and sanitation education, and filter monitoring.

We are currently seeking donations for an application to CIDA's Canadian Partnership Branch in partnership with the Rotary Club of Toronto Eglington.  If we meet our fundraising target - equal to 25% of the project budget -  a successful funding application would provide secure support for continuation of DESEA Peru's water and healthcare work.  DESEA's model of water treatment, health clinics, and community health worker training is achieving very significant community health improvement, especially in maternal and child health.  We are now proposing to extend this program to four remote, high-elevation communities and are actively soliciting donations for submission of an application in August 2010.

Volunteer assistance with this project is also welcomed. Volunteers help with tasks such as filter construction and installation, filter monitoring, data compilation and analysis, and communications.  For those located outside the project area, valuable assistance can be provided by promotion and fundraising efforts.
